SOLIDWORKS Dimensions - Collated Quick Tips

Tuesday February 12, 2019 at 9:47am
We have collated some of our favourite tips on creating, manipulating and controlling dimensions in SolidWorks, both at a sketching and drawing level. Read on to find out more…

1. Advanced Angle Dimensions

Use imaginary lines to create angular dimensions. This can be done through the selection of an edge and a collinear vertex. The crosshair icon will appear allowing you to select a segment to use as reference:

2. Arc Length Dimensions

Arc length dimensions can be added to an arc through the selection of both end points and then the centre point of the arc:

3. Dimension Names

For dimensions that are not referenced you are able to change the dimensions name. This can be done in the dimensions property manager within the “Primary Value” options. Make sure to hide/show dimension names via: View > Hide/Show > Dimension Names:

4. Dragging Dimensions

Holding “Shift” whilst dragging a dimension at drawing level will allow you to transfer dimensions from one drawing view to another. This is also a time saving tip since you aren’t required to delete and recreate the desired annotation:
