A quicker way to send SOLIDWORKS parts via email

Every now and then there is a need to email a SOLIDWORKS part to a colleague/customer, but the files might take quite a bit of space on disk. And sending a document over 10MB over email is slow and unreliable. If only there was a way to compress the part file very quickly and with least amount of effort...

Every now and then there is a need to email a SOLIDWORKS part to a colleague/customer, but the files might take quite a bit of space on disk. And sending a document over 10MB over email is slow and unreliable. If only there was a way to compress the part file very quickly and with least amount of effort...

Select all the features in the tree > suppress > save part as a copy. That’s it!

Have a look at this:

Now select everything in the tree, and suppress:

Save as a copy and continue:

A there’s the result:

 Now you’re not sending the built part itself, but only instructions to build the part – which are virtually the same thing in the world of parametric modelling!
