Description
Ascend Diagnostics is an innovative company in the heart of Manchester founded in 2016, with aim to developing cutting edge technologies to deliver high speed diagnostics at a low cost in clinical markets. We are in the process of developing our first product, a new generation of MALDI mass spectrometer and all the complex UI and backend software that goes with it.
Due to flexibility of the underlying MALDI mass-spec technology, we can target our instrument at an ever-growing list of clinical applications (including cancer diagnostics). We are initially targeting our instrument at the identification of microbial infections in hospital patients, but in future we plan to tackle any emerging technology that we believe can make a real difference to the wellbeing of the population at large.
We're a small cross-functional team of less than 30 people, with expertise ranging from microbiology, mechanical and electronic engineering, software engineering, chemistry & physics. Our staff are specialists in their field but have wide-ranging interests. This means that there is always the opportunity to upskill and spread your wings (in fact we actively encourage people to learn what other people do).
Our office is located at Citylabs 1.0, a brand new multi-million-pound development off Oxford Road, Manchester for scientific/biomedical companies.
As a R&D mechanical engineer you will work closely with the product manager and R&D team on all stages of the product development lifecycle from research and development through to detailed design for manufacture. Your main responsibilities would be:
Produce design solutions for new and innovative instrumentation and products to meet market requirements that are reliable, safe and cost efficient
Assessing project/product requirements to develop product functional specifications
Using computer aided design and modelling software, such as SolidWorks
