Applications Engineer

The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Applications Engineer to join our manufacturing team. This role will be responsible for delivering multifaceted CAE software solutions to our customer base, while also supporting the commercial and wider technical team, with your industry knowledge.

The role covers the south of England, the Midlands along with Wales and there may occasionally be travel further afield, including Ireland and Scotland.

As a Solid Solutions Applications Engineer you have a great opportunity to use your engineering and problem solving skills to support the Solid Solutions customer base of 15,000 companies. This could be delivering a training course in the classroom or virtually, working on the support desk solving customer problems, delivering a pre-sales demonstration or supporting consultancy projects. Softwares supported include SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD; CAM and associated manufacturing tools; structural, kinematic and fluid simulation; data management; electrical design; PCB design; technical publications and rendering – so there is plenty of scope to acquire new skills.

Job Description
Understanding how SOLIDWORKS and associated software tools are used in many different industries to develop a myriad of products means you will never be short of new challenges and the opportunity to hone your skills.

Solid Solutions Applications Engineers go the extra mile to:
  • Provide proactive advice and exceptional customer service to our customers in a wide range of industries
  • Understand the needs of customers and, working with our extensive Technical Support team, develop solutions to design and engineering problems
Typical Activities Include:
  • Providing Training and Support to customers
  • Advising customers on best practice principles
  • The delivery of bespoke systems to the customer
  • Supporting the commercial team to ensure customers receive the correct products
  • Using your specialist knowledge to support other members of the technical team
  • Product demonstration.
  • Travel and staying away from home can be a key part of this role
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Essential:
  • At least 7 years industry experience from a furniture, joinery or related background
  • Must have some experience with either training or supervising other members of staff
  • Experience of utilising wood routers with at least 1 of the following: Solid Wood, Laminates, MFC, MDF or plastics
  • High level of self-discipline and pride that is reflected in quality of work
  • Proficient with MS office suite
  • Ability to work unsupervised to deadlines
  • A strong customer focus, with effective communication and presentation skills
  • Team working in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Ability to develop customer relationships, to understand their needs and translate those needs into solutions that deliver real business benefits
  • Problem solving and initiative
  • A keen appetite to learn
Desirable:
  • Previous applications experience
  • Basic coding skills
  • SOLIDWORKS Experience
  • Experience with a CAM package
